Your TnAs (Time and Action calendars) on the web

Axind is a software company which develops its own products for the worldwide fashion industry since 2004. We were recognized twice by Gartner for the workflow/TnA component of our PLM (Product Lifecycle Management). Over the years, we have seen companies completely transform themselves with the successful implementation of our TnAs.

Worldwide, Fashion is a multi-trillion-dollar industry, and pretty much everyone uses TnAs (Time and Action calendars) for managing their sourcing and other processes. And Excel® TnAs are by far the most commonly used.

 

 

Excel® is a brilliant package and extremely useful, but when it comes to TnAs, it is a disaster! How do you share information? How can each user see what they must do and when? How do you get warnings when things are running late? How do you do an analysis of where you went wrong and how do you improve? Year-in and year-out there is panic, extreme stress and unforeseen problems. There is no “learning”, no “improvement”, the same crisis situations happen each year.

We decided that we have to fight a crusade against the use of Excel® and convince people that there is a better way. We decided to create a separate product just for managing TnAs, WebTnA. The emphasis was on quick setup, ease of use and an open API for integration with any other system. Finally, there is an alternative to Excel®; WebTnA®.

A humorous side note: We were extremely happy and quite surprised to be able to get the URL www.webtna.com. It turns out that it was a pornographic website which was given up just recently! Of course, we have since changed the details of the listing. 😉

These are difficult times for our world. I wish for the safety of your near and dear ones.

We do, however, find ourselves with a unique opportunity right now. We now have time to reflect and to prepare for the future. In the words of Barbara Concoran (from TV show Shark Tank), “Here’s what I’ve learnt on all these crises through all the years: when things go south, they come back like gangbusters.”. In other words, the period after this crisis will bring a lot of pent-up demand, and this is the time to start preparing.

It’s time to re-examine the basis of our ways of working. What can we do better to optimize our processes? And where better to start than with our TnAs, the Time-and-Action calendars that are at the heart of managing our processes?

Ask yourself, “What do I want from a TnA?”

• I want to know my status quickly, wherever I may be.
• I want to know what I have to do each day/week, etc.
• I want to be reminded of my To-Dos so that I don’t forget.
• I want early warnings when things start to go wrong, before it’s too late to act.
• I want to “learn”, i.e., I want to know if my TnA assumptions are valid, and what needs to be changed.
• I want to measure my performance and that of others. (How else will I know how we are performing, and how to improve?)

Think about what your company can now to prepare for the future. For a change, you actually have the time.

How WebTnA can enhance your efficiency and make your work easier

As an individual user working in a company, it’s nice to know what you need to do each day with one glance. WebTnA’s personal calendar gives you just this—all your activities for the day, the week, etc. become available in one place. They’re even viewable as a list which can be easily filtered per customer, brand, etc. for a clearer overview (for example, if you’re a quality assurance person going to visit a factory, you can simply print out a list of everything that needs to be done there.). You can also export your calendar to Outlook. You can close activities, and you can add messages to the calendar itself.

Every day, WebTnA’s sends every user a single email, listing out the pending work. No need to search Excel® files; no looking for lists. Everything you need is right there in your inbox, with timely reminders so you don’t miss anything.

With WebTnA, you can be either an “owner” of an activity, or an “observer” (e.g. management). Relationship between WebTnA and ERPs

ERP stands for “Enterprise Resource Planning” and refers to an integrated set of applications to manage a business. Currently it is used to refer to any legacy system used by an organization which covers more than a single functional area.

WebTnA has been carefully designed to work with existing ERP systems and add value to them. You can use WebTnA to enhance your current fashion ERP system or replace your current TnA system with the rich functionality that WebTnA has on offer.

At the simplest level, you can export your orders from your current Fashion ERP system and import it into WebTnA, thereby automatically creating TnAs. You can also email the list to ImportTnA@axind.com, whereby the TnAs will automatically be uploaded in the system. Of course, you do need to match the list of fields in your export document with the fields created by you in WebTnA.

Automatic creation of users, activities and TnAs
